About This Event

As spring rolls in, the Nation heads to Mineral Wells State Park for a weekend of hiking scenic trails, exploring the historic dam and hills, and gathering around the campfire as the days grow longer and warmer. Lake Mineral Wells State Park is about 45 minutes west of Fort Worth. Beyond the lake there are nearly thirteen miles of hiking and biking trails, canoe, kayak and paddleboard rentals, fishing with no license required, and Penitentiary Hollow, the park's famous rock-climbing canyon.

Heads up

A burn ban was in effect at this park in September 2026; check the park's page before packing firewood. When fires are allowed, use the fire rings only and buy firewood locally (emerald ash borer quarantine).

Bring and know

Bring: tent and bedding, camp chairs, sturdy shoes for the trails, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and layers for cool spring nights. Park hours: open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pets: not allowed. Nation campouts are pet-free, even where the park permits them.
